There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
