The consistent scarcity in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in one sense rather questionable, in one way or another.
In past times, the city was a region where a lot of South Africans would vacation to disappear from the extremely prohibitive regulations on gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Therefore, you could count on somewhat of a flourishing industry to serve that tourist industry.
But, perhaps it isn’t all that much of a bombshell. The area is truly the most pauperized in the world, having gone through a horrific civil war (followed by devastating floods) from which it is still, very slowly, pulling through. This tends to make a spot much less of a vacation target, even though there is at this moment a inviting setting along several of the city’s attractive beaches.
It is at the same time true that regionally at a minimum, Mozambique’s casinos have had to aspire with casinos in the newly liberalized South Africa, consisting of the prominent Sun City founded by the Kerzner family organization.
Here’s a list of Mozambique’s casinos:
Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel
There are 78 slot machines and also video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, also a poker table.
Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino
There are forty slot machines, American roulette, and two tables for poker and punto banco.
It is thought that over time the whole tourism sector in Mozambique will thrive adequately. While the local languages are, apparently, African, there is also the remnant of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the innovative and escalating introduction of English, both from South Africa and as part of the global phenomenon. The country is distinctly cheap (evidently, as it is really poor) and as above, has some of the most breathtaking beaches worldwide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the types of elements that make tourism management drool, and as the country climbs out of its existent slump, it’s likely that not only will tourism develop, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer for sure.
While the country is not expected to ever recapture its reputation as a target for partying South Africans, as there are now other choices closer to home for them to oblige in, the development of a long distance tourism sector is being outlined. This would be to cater to Europeans looking forward to winter sun, as a break from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Additionally, to top it off, the finest prawns (shrimp) in the world derive from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
